As initiator of a small dive team called ‘Ecodivers’ I arranged a dive trip to the Lac de la Haute Sûre in Luxemburg. We (a Group of 4 buddies) discused diving in Luxembourg for several years before finally we decided to explore this artificial lake.
The Lac de la Haute Sûre was created in the sisties of the 20th century to provide the inhabitants of this small country with fresh water and Electricity. The lake has a length of 10 kilometers and has a maximum depth of 32 meters. There are over a dozen dive sites close to each other. Allthough the information gathered on the internet promised a visibility of a few meters but during our stay we’re suprised with a visibility of at least 10 meters. The First few meters the temperature of the water was nice but beneath 6 meters it became much colder. The drysuits we used were needed.
There’s just a little life in the lake, mostly at the less deep parts of the lake. We spotted some large pikes, sholes of red fin perches and a lot of fresh water lobsters. In the deeper parst it’s possible to explore the ruins of old constructions from the time the lake was still a little River meandering through the valley.
Air and Nitrox are available at the little villages of Insenborn (Hotel Pfeifer) and Lultzhausen.
